Amazon Announces New Fulfillment Center in Southern Nevada

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced plans to open its third Nevada fulfillment center in North Las Vegas. Amazon currently employs more than 1,500 full-time hourly associates at its two existing Nevada fulfillment centers in Reno and North Las Vegas, and plans to create more than 1,000 new positions at its second North Las Vegas facility.

On the upcoming election ballot, Moapa Valley voters will find several choices for municipal government leadership. These will include races for Clark County Commission District B, Overton Power District At Large District 7 and the Overton Power District Moapa seat District 3.
The following will give a brief introduction of these candidates.

Clark County Commission B

Marilyn Kirkpatrick (D-NLV) is the incumbent in the Commission District B race. Kirkpatrick was appointed to the position in August of 2015 by Governor Brian Sandoval after the resignation of former-Commissioner Tom Collins.

KSNV: 500 volunteers, commissioners tackle east valley clean-up projects

About 500 volunteers and three Clark County commissioners put in several hours Saturday morning to clean up several areas on the east side of the valley.

Commissioners Chris Giunchigliani, Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Lawrence Weekly held the first Joint Community Clean-up Block Party from 9 a.m. to noon.

“We did get a lot done and it was great to see the community come together to make a big dent in some areas that needed a lot of work,” Commissioner Kirkpatrick told News 3. “We filled three large Dumpsters in just one complex and I know that Chris and volunteers made progress in her area near the Hollywood Rec Center while Commissioner Weekly had good progress over at Walnut (Recreation Center). We made a big dent near Charleston and Nellis as well.”

Pitching In To Improve The Trails

Hundreds of people turned out to give Logandale Trails a face-lift last Saturday at the 23rd Annual Public Lands Day event. Organized and co-sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Partners in Conservation (PIC), outdoor enthusiasts, as well as those who just wanted to help, turned out at the area’s main trailhead to plant desert seedlings, repaint structures, seed abandoned trails, remove grafitti, and pick-up trash.

KSNV: County Commission tackles stadium proposal

There were lots of questions today at the Clark County Commission meeting – all over the plan to build a stadium where the Raiders can play in Southern Nevada.

The governor has yet to set the date for a special session where lawmakers will have the final say.

County Staffers Interact with Local Public..

Senior Clark County officials travelled to Moapa Valley last week to present a special seminar aimed to instruct local residents who have plans to build or renovate on their property. The seminar was held on Thursday night at the Overton Community Center. More than 60 people attended.

County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who was in attendance at the meeting, said that she had heard feedback from local residents about the complexities of getting through the project approval process with county staff. Kirkpatrick and her staff had arranged the seminar to inform the public about the process and help to simplify it.
“I am big on openness, transparency and communication,” Kirkpatrick said. “So I felt that bringing these folks out to meet and interact with you here might help to bridge some gaps.”
