EFSP Funding and UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund Application: EFSP applications for Phase 37 and CARES Act supplemental funding are due at 11:59 pm on Saturday, May 16. The State of Nevada-  Department of Health and Human Services

DHHS has prepared a list of important services that are available by phone, email or on the web. The Department acts as the state’s social safety net providing medical and food assistance, mental health resources and other programs to support children, seniors and Nevada families.

Help of Southern Nevada: 

In addition to rental programs, this agency offers a wide variety of programs, such as security deposit assistance, food, electric bill, counseling, and much more. They also have several locations across Clark County.

The Salvation Army:

Shelter, low-income housing, and homeless prevention/rent assistance is offered. They also administer a variety of other social services, and are a great place to call for referrals too. May offer a variety of rent programs, shelter or other forms of social services.

Lutheran Social Services: 

Services include information on low income as well as transitional housing. Families facing a crisis may qualify for a loan from LSS of Nevada.

Las Vegas Diaper Bank:

Walk-ins accepted Monday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Parents/guardian will need to bring the following documents: Child’s name/Date of Birth or Proof of parenthood/guardianship. Parents will receive 50 diapers and 25 pull-ups. Parents can get diapers once every 30 days.

Clark County Catholic Charities: 

Regardless of religion, they may be able to offer assistance. If you have an eviction notice then you may qualify for emergency rental assistance. Possibly money for deposit, first month’s rent, or moving costs is also available at the charity.

Las Vegas Urban League:

If you are faced with an eviction, or are struggling to pay your rent, meet with a housing specialist to learn about available options. They offer tenant/landlord mediation, may have some limited funding to pay rent or housing costs, free legal advice, and can help people apply for government as well as public aid. The Clark County agency also has information on low income housing, utility or security deposits, and affordable apartments in Clark County.

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada:

Assists with housing issues, including eviction prevention, foreclosures, security deposit disputes and more. They are a pro-bono, or free legal firm in Clark County. A comment on their most recent update says: “We have pivoted from providing in-person services to providing assistance by telephone, email, Facebook, and the web.”

Salvation Army in Mesquite – North Rural Clark County: 

Mesquite & Bunkerville – This charity type organization provides emergency financial assistance such as rent, housing & utilities to low-income clients and families residing in North Rural Clark County area of Bunkerville as well as Mesquite and surrounding areas.

United Way of Southern Nevada

United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) unites our community to improve people’s lives from cradle to career. UWSN created the Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund to assist those impacted by Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19). By bringing together nonprofits, corporate partners, schools, governmental agencies and our community, we will move Southern Nevada forward.

Project 150:

Food and hygiene products for high school students. Their Education and Empowerment Center is also open to students to utilize FREE workshops while away from the classroom.

Corridor of Hope Alliance:

Seniors aged 62 or older, or families with children under the age of 18, can get rental assistance. They also try to find affordable, supportive housing for the elderly or disabled.

Safe Nest:

SafeNest, a non-profit agency in Clark County focused ending domestic violence and assisting those affected by it, will keep its shelter and crisis hotlines will fully operational in order to offer services to those facing an unsafe home environment.

RepairSmith:

RepairSmith is offering individuals up to $500 in repair and maintenance services if they have been severely impacted by COVID-19. This includes unemployed Nevadans who lost their jobs after March 1st and can directly attribute it to business disruptions caused by COVID-19 and to frontline workers, including: Government Workers, Service Workers, Delivery drivers, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and grocery store and pharmacy.

Las Vegas Urban League is helping individuals in Clark County that are classified as critical workers find child care

To clarify, child care centers can continue to provide services to their existing families.  The state is asking them to give priority to essential services and emergency workers when filling new or vacant positions.

During COVID-19, “Essential Services and Emergency Workers” include the providers of: health care, emergency medical services, and long-term and post-acute care; public health employees; law enforcement personnel and personnel providing correctional services; firefighters and other first responders; and grocery, pharmacy and child care providers.

UTILITIES

NV Energy has suspended disconnects for non-payment during the coronavirus crisis for customers directly impacted by the crisis. The utility is also waiving late fees and deposits for customers who experience financial hardship related to the coronavirus. This does not mean you can stop paying your electricity bill. NV Energy has extended its energy assistance program, Project REACH, to those impacted by the coronavirus.

Southwest Gas is suspending natural gas disconnections for non-payment and offering flexible payment options to customers experiencing financial hardship. This does not mean you can stop paying your gas bill. Customers can manage their accounts and payment options through MyAccount at www.swgas.com or the Southwest Gas mobile app.

The Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) has temporarily suspended customer shutoffs for delinquent and/or non-payment. This does not mean you can stop paying your water bill. Cox Communications has pledged to not terminate service to any residential customer because of an inability to pay their bills due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The company is waiving late fees and upgrading internet speeds to at least 50Mbps for all accounts. This does not mean you can stop paying your internet bill. Cox is also offering the first month free for its Connect2Compete package for students who need an internet connection for schoolwork.

CenturyLink has pledged to waive late fees and not to terminate a residential or small business customer’s service for the next 60 days due to financial circumstances associated with coronavirus. This does not mean you can stop paying your internet bill. The company also paused it data cap on internet usage. Please call  1-866-642-0444 for more information.

The City of Henderson has temporarily suspended water service shutoffs for customers that are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This does not mean you can stop paying your water bill. Customers should contact the Department of Utility Services’ Customer Care Center to make a payment arrangement at (702) 267-5900.
